Solar love spreads locally
EDMS has been awarded the early works (mechanical contractor), with the provision to progress into full scope, on the project.
The Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) 100MW Clare Solar Farm project is expected to be operational in late 2017.
Downer EDI won the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract and a two-year Operations and Maintenance contract, valued around $190 million in total, for the Clare Solar Farm, 35km west of Ayr.
FRV Australia managing director Cameron Garnsworthy said the company had asked Downer Utilities to specifically look at hiring local businesses during the construction and operation stages.
And that they did.
EDMS is Cairns based and has a manufacturing facility in Townsville.
They’ve called for expressions of interest from mechanical trades, assistant boilermakers, fitters and riggers. Click for details.
Mechanical construction is due for completion in November 2017.
“It will generate more electricity than any other solar project built to date in Australia, which will be enough to power about 42,000 Queensland homes,”Mr Garnsworthy said.
FRV is also proposing a second stage development at Clare which would provide a further 36MW of renewable energy using similar technology to that approved for use at the Clare Solar Farm.
