The  $352 million Rookwood Weir project, 60km south-west of Rockhampton in Central Queensland, is now listed on the ICN Gateway.

The project involves the construction of a new water storage facility on the Fitzroy River and is being delivered by Sunwater, jointly funded by the Australian  and Queensland Governments.

The development was identified in the Central Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy to help meet future urban agricultural and industrial water demand in Rockhampton, Gladstone and the Capricorn Coast.

The project encompasses:
  • construction of the Rookwood Weir and associated ancillary infrastructure
  • upgrading Thirsty Creek Road and the intersection with the Capricorn Highway at Gogango
  • construction of bridges upstream at Riverslea and Foleyvale crossings, including upgrades to the approaches to accommodate the high elevation of the new bridges (approximately 25m above normal river level).
