The shiploader boom cost $2.2 million to fabricate and will be installed at the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance Hay Point Coal Terminal.
It weighs 73 tonnes, is 49.2m long, 7.35m wide and 5.3m high.
Fabricated at Melco’s workshop in Mackay, the Shiploader 1 boom was transported by road under police escort to a leased laydown area at Half Tide Tug Harbour, adjacent to the Hay Point terminal.
A BMA spokesman said the boom would remain at the leased site for a couple months, undergoing final electrical fit-out before installation in July.
