The 16th Annual Lloyd's List DCN Shipping and Maritime Industry Awards were held on Thursday 24 November 2011, Melbourne, to celebrate excellence and achievement.

NSS was priviledged to have been selected as a finalist in the Integrated Transport Award for the service we provide the Sun Metals in Townsville.

Sun Metals Corporation (SMC) engaged the services of NSS to integrate their supply chain. Before engaging NSS, SMC’s operated with a fragmented supply chain, which lead to significant delays and cost escalations at interface friction points.

NSS have deployed the latest technology to improve service delivery at each point in the supply chain. This is evident, for example, through NSS’ investment in Type 1 Road Trains to transport products between the port and refinery. This investment increased the tonnage per truck movement between SMC and the Port by 30% when compared with the former model.

The deployment of these Type 1 Road Trains required NSS to work collaboratively with the Queensland Department of Transport, trailer manufacturer Haulmark and SMC to obtain approval for the use of this equipment on the road route linking the SMC refinery to the Port. Toady this agreement results in the daily transport of between 800-1,000t of refined zinc.

Since the entering into agreement with SMC, NSS have streamlined the logistics process, analysing and removing inefficiencies and delivering an overall integrated supply chain solution. NSS now undertakes all services reducing total landside logistics costs for SMC while significantly improving the effectiveness of their supply chain.

It was also great to see POAGs selected as a finalist in the Safe Transport Award for the work done to significantly improve the safety for dozer operators on scrap vessels.
