Glencore launches $25m community fund
The company operates more than 180 sites and offices in more than 35 countries, including its Central Queensland coal operations and the copper and zinc business in North and North West Queensland.
It says the new Glencore Community Support Fund is designed to be responsive and complement existing efforts by local teams to provide the support their communities most need at this time.
“Our assets and offices are best placed to respond to COVID-19 in their regions and this fund will support actions that are designed and implemented locally, in collaboration with the organisations on the front line,” chief executive officer Ivan Glasenberg said.
“We hope that these efforts will help ease the burden on our host communities as we work together towards a common goal of combatting the impact of the coronavirus.”
Glencore says its mines and offices have been providing local in-kind support as well as adapting existing social investment programs to address the changing social needs during the crisis.
