Local businesses are being invited to submit capability statements for early works in North Queensland under the Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative (ASMTI).

Singapore is investing $2.25 billion to establish a training area in Greenvale and expand Shoalwater Bay Training Area for their use.

Of the $2.25 billion, the Townsville region is expected to see an investment of about $1 billion over the life of the initiative.

Capability statements must be submitted by July 31 for early works and by December 30 for the main works. Details HERE

A timeline set out as part of the capability documentation shows that acquisition works are due to start next month to define the new boundary of the training area and gaining a better understanding of the site.

These works may include environmental investigations, boundary fence works and boundary signage.

Early works between 2020 and 2022 will include removal of redundant infrastructure, fire breaks, fencing realignment and basic track construction / repairs.

This would be followed by ‘main works’, between 2022 and 2027, to be delivered under a managing contractor contract.

This will include civil works for tracked and wheeled vehicle manoeuvre, range control building and exercise debrief facilities, field toilets and waste management, camp accommodation, vehicle wash, storage and maintenance facilities, construction for urban tactical training, earth works and targets for live fire ranges, Information and Computer Technology (ICT) infrastructure, storage facilities, airfield construction and medical facilities.

The Department of Defence says the intent of the capability statement is to enhance the opportunity for local industry participation.

The Greenvale Training Area Capability Statements were covered in a briefing at the Greenvale Community Hall late last month, providing an opportunity for local individuals and businesses to hear about how they can prepare for the planned works.
