Calls for input to fully develop recycling as an industry
As part of it, Queenslanders are being encouraged to have their say on a plan to accelerate the state’s resource recovery industries over the next decade.
The draft Resource Recovery Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan has been launched as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s wider commitment to improve waste management in Queensland.

“This plan is about creating new jobs, promoting industrial development and improving our environment,” Mr Dick said.
“Research indicates for every 10,000 tonnes of waste going to landfill there are fewer than three jobs supported, but if that same waste was recycled the number of jobs generated would more than triple to just over nine.
“This roadmap sets out actions for the next 10 years to ensure we, as a state, are diverting more waste away from landfill and creating new jobs in resource recovery industries.
“I invite all Queenslanders to read our draft roadmap and provide feedback on our new approach to waste management and resource recovery in this state.”
The Resource Recovery Industries 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan complements the draft Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy, released in February 2019, which outlines targets through to 2050.
Mr Dick said the Palaszczuk Government was focused on minimising waste and maximising resources.
“We want to see more waste go back into the production cycle to create new materials and products,” he said.
“This will reduce waste going to landfill, cut our greenhouse gas emissions and create better environmental outcomes, all the while helping us to build a stronger and more sustainable economy.”
