Rockhampton-based business Stresscrete has won a $9 million-plus contract to manufacture girders and supply concrete box culverts for Adani’s Carmichael rail project.

Adani Mining chief executive officer Lucas Dow said providing jobs and helping to support an economic boost for regional communities was now more important than ever.

“We’re very pleased to be able to add Stresscrete to our list of Rockhampton-based contractors during what is a very difficult time for everyone,” Mr Dow said.

“This Stresscrete contract will provide a significant injection into the local economy and it’s not just the direct jobs that are important, but the indirect jobs that are supported as a result of these sorts of contracts and the broader impact such work has on regional communities and families.”

It follows the award in April of a $220 million-plus contract to Australian rail company Martinus for civil works on the Carmichael coal rail network.

That contract involves 86km of rail formation works, a road over rail bridge, nine waterway bridges, more than 200 culverts and 35 rail crossings.

It followed a $100 million contract Martinus won in October 2019 for the track works component to deliver about 210km of narrow-gauge rail from the Carmichael mine to existing rail infrastructure.

Adani says the latest rail contract will see Stresscrete produce girders locally to be used throughout the rail corridor for the bridges that will be built over permanent waterways.

Stresscrete owner Craig Zinn said contracts like this were important to support the broader Rockhampton community, especially in light of COVID-19.
