Toowoomba-based company Wagners will build and operate a quarry to supply material required for Carmichael coal mining and rail infrastructure.

Adani Mining today announced Wagners’ selection as the lead contractor to deliver the Galilee Basin coal project’s $35 million-plus quarry operations package.

The South Back Creek Quarry, to be located about 160km outside Clermont, will supply up to 1.5 million tonnes of quarry materials for the development of roads, camps, pads, dams and mine civil works over a period of up to five years.

Wagners said up to 40 jobs would be created in the quarrying and haulage operations this involved.

It will start mobilising to site immediately for the first stage of works, requiring production and haulage of about 735,000 tonnes of material over 15 months.

Carmichael project director David Boshoff said the quarry contract meant Toowoomba was the latest regional town to get a piece of the Carmichael pie, with more jobs expected to be generated to deliver and operate the quarry.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of Martinus being awarded a $100 million-plus rail laying contract and Decmil receiving a $40 million-plus contract to build rail camps, both being delivered out of Rockhampton.

Plenty more contracts to award, says project director

“We have more than $500 million in contracts now awarded for the Carmichael Project and we are reaching out to all corners of the state to help us deliver them,” Mr Boshoff said.

“The operations of the rail camps will be based in Collinsville, earthworks and civil works are coming from Townsville and Rockhampton, fuel supply is from Townsville, telecommunications is from Mackay, rail track laying and rail camp construction is from Rockhampton and many other regional businesses and locations across regional Queensland are also getting involved.”

Mr Boshoff said people and businesses interested in working on the Carmichael project should register online.

“We still have plenty of other contracts yet to award, and we strongly encourage jobseekers and suppliers to register their details on Adani’s website at –
Us,” Mr Boshoff said.

“Through our employment and supplier portals people can also see Adani’s, and our contractors’, jobs and work packages being advertised as we progress with delivery of the Carmichael project.”
