$10,000 Cheque Just Swell for Nippers
The $10,000 gift from Northern Stevedoring Services was announced at the Lifesavers Ball at Jupiter’s Casino, Townsville.
The company has been an avid supporter of local causes, with surf lifesaving close to its heart, given its association with sea safety.
“We are thrilled to be able to support such a worthy cause that helps the community as a whole,” Northern’s general manager Todd Emmert said.
“Many of our employees are supporters of surf lifesaving as a company, we understand how paramount it is that people are surf-aware.”
Picnic Bay club official George Clarke said the donation was a lift for the club and would ensure it remained at the core of the community. “The money will be going towards training and development of our junior lifesavers,” Mr Clarke said.
“And this year we are sending our biggest team ever of 23 kids to compete in the Queensland Junior State Lifesaving titles.
“We have more than 250 members aged between 5 and 14 years. The sponsorship that (the company) is offering is going to be so valuable to the club.”
The company was formed in 1971.
It is headquartered in Townsville and also has operations in Gladstone, Mackay, Cairns and Weipa ports.
It supplies a range of stevedoring, transport and logistics services.
