Northern Stevedoring Services (NSS), regional Queensland’s largest stevedoring company, was last night awarded “Highly Commended” for the Safe Transport Award at the Lloyds List Awards Ceremony in Sydney.

With an industry that has suffered tragic safety mishaps in the past 12-months, NSS has led the way in producing safety programs and protocol that have changed the way stevedores operate.

“We are thrilled to be awarded a “Highly Commended” in the Safe Transport Award for the industry’s largest and most significant awards program for an area of our business that we take incredibly seriously,” stated Mr Todd Emmert, General Manager, NSS.

“NSS has invested heavily in the past 3 years to ensure that our employees and anyone who has contact with our area of work undergo stringent training processes and protocol to eliminate any accidents.”

“We have been very successful in our approach and importantly protected the people who work for us.”

NSS’ “Where Safety Always Comes First” program has significantly reduced statutory injuries through the implementation of improved training programs, injury management and reporting systems.

“NSS has reduced the amount of workplace injuries significantly and has also altered the mindsets of employees in terms of workplace safety.”

“It’s great to see that a local Townsville company has been acknowledged as an industry leader and innovator in the field of safety which is a testament to our systems and just how seriously we take this area in our business.”

Lloyds List hosts the most prestigious industry awards for logistics, transport and shipping.

NSS is headquartered in Townsville and operates in Gladstone, Mackay, Cairns and Weipa Ports.
