Northern Stevedoring Services (NSS), Regional Queensland’s largest supply chain management provider today announced the acquisition of the vessel mooring and lines services for the Port of Townsville from Svitzer Pty Ltd.

The new acquisition, which will formally commence operations on April 1st 2010, includes the ownership and operation of the vessel, X-Fire, for all lines boat work within the Port of Townsville.

“We’re very happy to have acquired the vessel mooring and lines services in such a significant Port as well as ownership of the X-Fire vessel,” said Todd Emmert, General Manager of NSS.

“It’s something we’ve put a lot of work into securing and we believe it will further cement NSS’ position in Townsville,” he said.

NSS is undertaking an extensive pre-employment review process for all current linesmen to ensure that all employees are completely inducted and fully equipped to provide the services.

“We’ll be employing all the current Svitzer linesmen so we need to make sure they all hold the necessary entry permits and that they’re able to deliver the level of service that NSS demands,” said Emmert.

Bookings for the vessel mooring and services will continue to be made directly through Svitzer until the end of June 2010.

“We’re currently working on an alternative booking system that will be streamlined with the towage services and that will be operational as of July 1,” said Emmert.
